Invitation Secretariat

Esteemed MUN directors, dear delegates,

As the Secretariat of the 17th annual session of the Deutsche Schule Athen Model United Nations conference (DSAMUN) it is our great pleasure to invite you to attend this year’s conference, which will be held on the premises of our school from the 17th until the 19th of October 2014.
In previous years, the DSAMUN conference has attracted hundreds of participants from all over the world, especially in the light of our THIMUN affiliation over a decade ago. Every year, more than 500 student delegates attend our conference and, thus, it is up to us, the Secretariat, in close cooperation with the organizing team, to strive for the creation of a memorable conference. Endowed with the true MUN spirit and concerned with resolving issues of international importance, every year participants are provided with the opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue with the sole purpose of settling current affairs of global impact. Consequently, students have an undoubtedly unique experience, since they are able to fully understand the role of the United Nations on the complex issue of international politics and to make new acquaintances from all over the world, thus improving their communication skills and enjoying themselves while working towards a better world.
Surely, the 21st century has been a period of rapid developments, both in the political and socioeconomic sector. Out of the numerous modern affairs, political disputes and humanitarian issues, we have selected the most prevailing and crucial ones, which need the immediate attention of the international community. Thus, this year’s agenda will surely inspire all participating delegates to defend the interests of their respective countries and organizations. Bearing that in mind, this year’s conference will be on water: undoubtedly, an issue of high importance. There is no one who has not at least once heard the saying “World War III will be fought over water”. With global water resources diminishing at an alarming rate, humanity faces the seemingly unsolvable problem of fairly distributing the remaining water resources. Water issues have sparked off numerous international conflicts and have caused tremendous diplomatic tension. Moreover, concerning other topics on our agenda, we have included high-profile political disputes, such as the “situation in the East and South China Sea” and the “situation in the Central African Republic”, humanitarian crises, including “the right of the Kurdish people for self-determination”, and environmental issues which will shape the future of the planet.
Finally, we strongly believe that the controversial and highly interesting topics on the agenda will contribute to the success of the conference by inspiring all participants to look out for constructive solutions and, thus, to improve the current situation in the world.
On behalf of the DSAMUN organizing team, we look forward to meeting you all in October.

Sincerely,

The Secretary General   The President of the General Assembly  The Deputy Secretary General

Andreas Tsevas                      Laura Gousi                                 Marietta Protopapa

Invitation - 17th Deutsche Schule Athen Model United Nations Conference

Dear MUN Director, Advisor, Colleague,

We cordially invite you to the 17th DSAMUN Conference (Deutsche Schule Athen Model United Nations Conference) to be held from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 October 2014 at  Deutsche Schule Athen / Germaniki Scholi Athinon (GSA).

DSAMUN is a three-day-long simulation of the work of the United Nations. It is designed for secondary school students (Greek Lykeion/grades 10-12) and is intended to provide an occasion for the delegates to discuss world issues. It gives them the opportunity to experience the work of the United Nations and to get to know the world of diplomacy. For students from schools where the first language is not English an MUN conference also offers the opportunity to develop and practice their English, as the official language of DSAMUN (preparing resolutions, lobbying, debating) is English.

DSAMUN has 4 General Assembly Committees (Political Committee, Disarmament and International Security Committee, Social and Humanitarian Committee and Environmental and Cultural Committee) and 5 specialized committees (Security Council, ECOSOC, Special Conference on Water, Youth Assembly and International Court of Justice).

The delegates should research and prepare draft resolutions and policy statements on the various issues and learn to negotiate and debate in the formal way of the United Nations. By attending DSAMUN, foreign delegates will have the great opportunity to visit the Acropolis, the new Acropolis Museum and all the other places of interest in Athens. On Sunday 19 October an optional excursion to Chalkida will be organized. Special rates for accommodation will be offered.

The MUN website (www.dsamun.gr) provides you with all the necessary detailed information. You register online.  For any further information please contact our team at This email address is being protected from spambots.
