Esteemed MUN Directors, honorable delegates,

On behalf of the DSAMUN Secretariat, it is our profound pleasure to invite you to attend this year’s conference, which will be held on the premises of the German School of Athens from the 18th until the 20th of October, 2019.

It was exactly 22 years ago, when the first DSAMUN conference was hosted at our school. Ever since, our conference has attracted hundreds of participants coming from all over the world, for the sole purpose of gathering for three days in order to discuss topics of paramount importance threatening the modern society. Being a THIMUN-affiliated conference for over a decade, DSAMUN proudly provides participants with the opportunity to undertake the role of a diplomat in eleven different committees handling issues inspired by current global affairs and the United Nations. Delegates are offered the unique chance of not only to meeting people from all around the globe and form friendships, but also acquire knowledge of many different cultures, while at the same time sharing a variety of perspectives on global affairs.

One cannot deny that our world faces a plethora of crucial issues ranging from breaches in international security to the consequent rise of populism, from the weaponisation of Artificial Intelligence and other cyber-security threats to the drug cartels in Latin America, from civil disobedience to the role of young women in traditional conservative societies. Of such importance are the issues to be debated upon in the context of the 22nd annual session of DSAMUN.

The theme of this year’s conference is the creation and preservation of sustainable cities. Nowadays more than half a billion people live in urban slums and approximately one hundred million people live under the poverty threshold. In accordance with the 11th Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations, this year’s conference seeks to pave the way for inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements.

DSAMUN, being a Model United Nations conference, is aimed at preparing the youth for the future in terms of enhancing their political awareness and coming up with solutions to issues, which are expected to concern the human kind for the coming decades.

Finally, we strongly believe that this year’s agenda succeeds in covering all urgent issues prevailing in today’s world, thus leading to constructive and fruitful debates in all committees.

On behalf of the DSAMUN Organizing Team, we look forward to meeting you in October.

Sincerely,

The Secretary General,                                   The President of the General Assembly,
   Dimitrios Grigoriou                                                     Faidra A. Patsatzi
